The Greenfield Union School District has announced the appointment of Laura Cortez as Interim Superintendent.

Greenfield, California — October 11, 2024

The Greenfield Union School District is pleased to announce that Mrs. Cortez has been appointed as the new Interim Superintendent following a unanimous 5-0 vote by the school board. With eight years of dedicated service within the district, Mrs. Cortez’s selection is the best decision to ensure continuity and stability during this transitional period.

Over her two-decade tenure in the educational sector, Mrs. Cortez has amassed a wealth of experience through her service in multiple capacities. Her roles have spanned from teacher, and academic coach to a school site principal, further advancing to a district director and a county office of education director, culminating in the position of associate superintendent. This diverse array of positions underscores her comprehensive understanding of the educational landscape and her commitment to fostering academic excellence.

Mrs. Cortez has consistently demonstrated a commitment to student achievement. She has played a pivotal role in developing core educational programs, including the innovative Lego Education initiative, essential standards mapping, and rigorous assessments. Her collaborative work with teams has resulted in a wide array of experiences that ensure students receive a well-rounded education.

As she steps into this leadership role, Mrs. Cortez is determined to remain at the forefront of education, prioritizing student achievement in the months ahead. A first-generation college graduate, she is deeply connected to the students she serves and sees reflections of her journey in their experiences. 

Mrs. Cortez holds a Bachelor's Degree and a Master’s Degree from UC Santa Barbara, and a second Master’s Degree from San Jose State University. Her educational background and passion for learning equip her to inspire both students and staff as they strive for excellence.

Social-Emotional Learning

LEGO and FIRST Robotics

We believe in STEAM education in ALL our elementary schools and specialized STEAM courses at VVMS that include Automation and Robotics, Medical Detectives and Computer Science.
