Superintendent's Message

Welcome back, GUSD family and community:

Welcome to the 2024-25 academic year! I hope this letter finds you all well, having enjoyed a restful and relaxing time with your loved ones. We are thrilled to embark on a new journey filled with optimism, impact, and success this year because we know that when we share common goals, we are #BetterTogether! As we rise from any challenges of our past, we know that our GUSD family and community is resilient and capable of anything because #GUSDisontheRise!

I’m excited to share that this year our district will launch our "Portrait of a Greenfield Learner" as we introduce our “Framework for the Future!” This theme will guide us in all we do as we create incredibly bold, beautiful, and brilliant scholars by design. Our exciting journey of education and growth reflects our collective dreams for every student. The Portrait of a Greenfield Learner encapsulates the essence of our aspirations for every brilliant GUSD student, promising to foster the development of critical competencies to lead, innovate, and contribute positively to their communities and beyond. Our commitment is to nurture well-rounded individuals equipped to thrive in an ever-changing global landscape.

Our focus this year will be on the five major outcomes of the Portrait of a Greenfield Learner:

  1. Insightful Learner: Our learners critically analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information from various perspectives, embracing creativity for innovative solutions.

  2. Collaborative Communicator: We cultivate communicators who effectively share ideas, engage in discussions, and utilize diverse platforms for collective success.

  3. Progressive Global Leader: Our students become leaders who value diversity, harness technology, and passionately advocate for real-world solutions.

  4. Socially Aware Decision-Maker: We inspire decision-makers who act empathetically and make wise choices for their own well-being and that of others.

  5. Empowered Learner: Above all, our learners take charge of their education, overcoming challenges with resilience and creativity.

I am excited to begin this school year as we collectively work towards fulfilling our Greenfield Guarantee. We are committed to ensuring our amazing scholars excel in innovative technology, exemplary academics, and supportive social-emotional learning. We eagerly anticipate welcoming our scholars back and collaborating with our teachers to design teaching and learning experiences that align with our mission of #ALLmeansALL as we focus on enduring all our scholars will thrive in an ever-changing future!

This year marks the beginning of my eighth year as your superintendent, and it is with pride that we reflect on the incredible progress we've made together. From successfully launching our PLC journey and collective team meeting protocols to implementing PreK-8 Essential Standards mapping and Common Assessments, we have created a solid foundation for our student's success. Additionally, we have implemented PBIS and SEL support districtwide, embraced Google Applications for Education (GAFE), introduced innovative technology in classrooms, sustained LEGO robotics, and became a League of Innovative Schools district/Digital Promise School District. Our partnerships with Apple Education and Google Education have provided FIRST® Robotics students with expositions and critical 21st-century skills. At the same time, our PreK-8 21st Century Learning Spaces, Family Resource Center, and Early Childhood Center have further enriched the educational experiences for our families. We are committed to providing college and career experiences, ensuring that every GUSD student secures a thriving future and will continue to take all students to a different university every school year.

We are so excited to welcome you back, as we know the beauty of seeing everyone again will undoubtedly be exceedingly joyful! I wish you all an amazing school year and thank you for letting GUSD be a part of your lives!

All my best to you,

Laura Cortez
