Handle with Care is a recommended program endorsed by Monterey County Office of Education SELPA that is dedicated to the reduction of violence through techniques such as:
- tension reduction
- preventative actions aimed to reduce the need for the use of a physical restraint
- the use of prompt, skillful, and appropriate physical restraint, when necessary
Who Should Attend?
This training is required for the following professionals:
- Special Education Teachers
- Severe Needs Instructional Assistants
- Campus Supervisors
This training is recommended for the following professionals:
- Speech Language Pathologists
- Occupational Therapists
- School Psychologists
- School Counselors
- Administrators
When and Where?
- Date: Saturday, August 17th
- Time: 8:00am to 3:15 pm
- Location: Vista Verde Middle School Gym
Other Details?
- Breakfast will be provided
- 1-hour lunch on your own
- Timesheets will be provided for classified & certificated staff
- Participants will receive a certificate of completion

Special Education Conference for Parents/Guardians
Monterey County SELPA & Special Kids Connect are hosting the 2nd Annual Back to School Special Education Conference for parents/guardians who have school-age children (ages 3 - 22) with special educational needs on SATURDAY, AUGUST 17 from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm at Hartnell College.
Registration for the event can be completed at https://docs.google.com/forms/
This information is also shared with parents and families on the SELPA wesbite at https://www.montereycoe.org/
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- Workshops will be presented in English & Spanish.
- Community agencies will be available to provide resource information.
- Lunch will be provided.
- Child care is available at a cost of $10/child. Child care space is extremely limited. Sign up through the registration page link as soon as possible.
- The SELPA website will be updated with additional conference and presenter information soon!
